Publishing Party this Thursday!

Our Publishing Party has been rescheduled for Thursday, February 27, 2014  at 8:15 am.

Hope you can make it!

-Ms. Amy 🙂

Dear Families,

It’s hard to believe winter break is only two weeks away! Your students have been working hard in reading, writing, math and social studies.

To celebrate their hard work we will be having a holiday store and a holiday party. On Thursday, December 19th we will have our annual holiday store. At the store students can buy gifts for their families. If you have any gift-like items that you would like to donate to our store, please send them in as soon as possible.

The holiday party will take place on Friday, December 20, 2013. We will be having a pizza lunch together. If possible, please send in $5.00 with your child to help offset the cost of the pizza. We will also watch the movie of our read aloud book, Bridge to Terabithia.

As always, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions.

A Couple of Reminders:

  • Please send back the Parent Conference Forms asap. I am in the process of putting together a schedule of times. It is very important to me that we have the chance to meet to discuss the progress your child has been making.
  • Field Trip Forms: Please make sure permission slips are signed and returned on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 so that your child may attend the field trip.
  • Please check your child’s important folder  every night. I send home important notices and documents in this folder so it must be checked nightly.

Thanks in advance!

Reading Workshop

Students are working very hard on our character study unit. During our read aloud, Bridge to Terabithia, by Katherine Paterson, students have been making observations about positive and negative character traits in the characters. Then, students have been supporting their thinking with text evidence.

Students are also practicing this skill in their independent reading books.

One of the students in the class said, “It’s important to think about characters because it helps us understand what we read.”

Check out some of our classroom charts the students have been using during the unit.
